Our Daily Leadership Message Scripture and Quotes

There’s an old story about two boys who had a father who was an alcoholic. They grew into young men.

One son became an alcoholic. “What choice do I have?” he said. “My father is an alcoholic.”

The other son never touched a drop of alcohol. “How could I?” he said. “Look what it did to my father.”

From this simple story, we see three lessons:

We are all role models.

Like it or not, other people look at how we behave and model their lives after us. John Wooden, the great basketball coach, wrote a wonderful poem that goes like this:

A careful man I want to be,
A little fellow follows me;
I do not dare to go astray,
For fear he’ll go the self-same way.

It’s something that we need to keep in mind for all the people we care about and influence.

We can learn from others.
It’s much better to learn a lesson from someone else’s experience than to have to experience it ourselves. And that even applies to our parents. They aren’t perfect either. We can look to them for an example – in some cases it may be a positive one; in others it won’t be. Either way, we can take away direction in how to live our lives.

We all have the power to choose.
We don’t always get to choose what happens to us or around us, but we can choose how we respond.  We can’t control the circumstances, but we have total and complete control over our reaction.

These two sons started in the same place, with the same circumstances. However, they chose completely different paths as a result of their situation.

HAVE YOU BEEN VIEWING SUCCESS AS A DESTINATION OR A JOURNEY?

Dream big and dare to fail.

It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.

Dream big, take action. If you succeed, you succeed. But even if you fail, you have won a lot.

When you’re right, no one remembers. When you’re wrong, no one forgets.

Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts

Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

Bad things happen so you can see who is there for you at the end of the day. Once you realize who really is, that’s all that really matters.

A good friend is someone you can rely on and trust. They will be there when you need them the most.

ROMANS 8:38-39

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

PSALM 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

JEREMIAH 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Daily Quotes

I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.

Jimmy Dean

I truly believe that everything that we do and everyone that we meet is put in our path for a purpose. There are no accidents; we’re all teachers – if we’re willing to pay attention to the lessons we learn, trust our positive instincts and not be afraid to take risks or wait for some miracle to come knocking at our door.

Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.

A Job Interview Test

A company announced a job opening for the position of a telegraph operator. Two days after, ten applicants were waiting in the large, noisy hall in front of the personnel manager’s office for a job interview.

A young man was among them. Like the others, he filled out a form that he was given and sat down to wait. He saw secretaries and clerks coming and going and heard a telegraph clacking away in the background.

A couple of minutes later, this man stood up, crossed the room and walked to the door of the manager’s office. He knocked on the door, then walked right in.

The other applicants were shocked by his rude attitude. They talked among themselves, all agreeing that this man would be definitely disqualified even before his interview started. Ten minutes passed and the man came out of the office, escorted by the personnel manager, who announced:

“Thank you for coming. The position has just been filled.”

The applicants were confused and one man spoke up, “Sir, we don’t understand this. All of us have been waiting much longer than him, yet we never had a chance of an interview.”

The manager replied “Yes, indeed, all of you have been sitting here for more than an hour. All this time, the telegraph has been ticking out one message: “Dear applicant, come right in so we can start the interview.”
